Downloading
- The recomended method is to open a browser on your phone and go to url:
http://download.geoshrine.org
where you can download the program directly to the phone.
- You can also download GeoShrine to your PC here:
GeoShrine1.07.jar, then transfer the file to your phone
using bluetooth, cable, memorycard or infrared.
Some phones also need a .jad file to install, it can be
downloaded here: GeoShrine1.07.jad. It's
unnecessary in most cases.

Installing
Some phones will automatically offer to install the program after
transfering it, or you may have to find the "GeoShrine.jar" yourself and execute
it.
- On Nokia (S40) phones use 'gallery' to browse for the file,
on SonyEricsson phones use 'Organizer/Filehandling'.
IMPORTANT! If given the choice, install in
phone-memory not on memory-card. It can speed up the program
significantly!
GPX-Files
For GeoShrine to be any useful you need a GPX file containing cache descriptions. Start by downloading this testfile NewYork.gpx containing 4 caches.
As a Premium Member of
geocaching.com you can create
Pocket Queries that will
collect and mail collections of caches, based on a query defined by you. You
can also download a specific cache directly from the cache
description page.
As an ordinary member, you can only download .loc files. These merely contain name
and position of the cache, not ideal for "paperless geocaching" - but still usable
for simple traditional caches where you don't need the description and hints.
If you have plenty of time, you can create your own .gpx files using
http://www.pcwize.com/geocaching/gpx_generator.php and some copy/pasting.
Transfering GPX-files to the phone
Again different phones behave differently. On some
phones you can download the file directly from the browser, on others you may
have to transfer it from your pc to the phone using bluetooth, infrared, cable
or by placing it on a memorycard and inserting the memorycard into the phone.
Phone memory
Please note that phones have limited memory. You may encounter “out
of memory” errors if you choose to include too many caches in the same file.
